This is the second Hoppes boresnake kit that I've purchased in .30 cal rifle. I liked my first kit so much that I bought another one for my dad. The boresnake really performs as advertised. It cleans very well after two passes. I usually put 3-4 passes through my rifle using the boresnake as it's really quite easy to use.I felt that the added accessories in the kit were worth the extra money over the boresnake alone. You can never have too much Hoppes solvent or gun oil. I haven't used the gun wipes yet as my silicon cloth has been working fine. The case is definitely handy for storage and transport, and if you can remember which is which, can easily fit two boresnakes with room to spare. Once you've used up the oil and solvent that comes with the kit, the bindings can be used to hold replacements.Unlike the other reviewer who gave the kit a bad rating due to the solvent discoloring the bluing of his rifle, I have had no issues. This may be the fact that I've always sprayed the solvent onto a cotton patch before application onto my guns; because if I had a regular jar of Hoppes solvent I wouldn't be pouring it directly onto my rifle. The aerosol also allows finer application of solvent to patch, as I don't have to dip and soak a whole patch. No complaints with the gun oil either, works as advertised.Overall I would say that the Hoppes boresnake kit is a great value for the price. It's a great kit for casual cleaning; basically, I would use it for maintenance cleaning to keep the gun in good shape but wouldn't use it for rifles that require an in depth clean.I'm a total convert to 'BoreSnake' gun cleaners now, after decades of using those screw-together aluminum rods. I've done side-by-side comparisons of cleaning guns from .17 varmint rifles to shotguns between traditional cleaning kits and the BoreSnake method -- and in every case, the BoreSnake results are faster and visibly cleaner. It's my opinion as well that it's a whole lot easier using the BoreSnake than it is to try to force cleaning patches through the smallest caliber long-guns, such as the aforementioned varmint rifle.I have noticed at times though that it can be a little rough pulling the cord through. So one thing I've done with my cleaning kit, is I've added a notched dowel rod about an inch in diameter and about four inches long. I wrap the end of the BoreSnake's cord around that and it's way easier to pull it through the barrel. Easier on my hands anyway.GreatThis little kit is a good value in that you get a lot for your money. The kit is compact and lightweight enough to be added to your day-pack on the off chance that you need to clean your long gun in the field. It contains both oil and cleaner, and also included is a plastic "handle" for pulling the bore snake through the barrel without wrapping the drop-strong/weight around your hand. So depending on what I'm shooting on any given day I can just change out the snake. Not sure the cleaner works in the aerosol form as well as a simple bottle might, but that's about the only flaw I see. This has the very basics necessary to get started. It has the oil, solvent, a bore snake, which is really inventive and cool, and wipe for the outside and other pieces of the gun. I also like that the pouch holds everything together in a small package. The bore snake makes quick work of cleaning your rifle and pistol bores. Much faster than using patches and a bar.Would give it five stats if it came with a brush for cleaning internals when you disassemble the gun for a deep cleaning. Otherwise, this is a great starter kit.I just got my kit and tried running it through my new Mossberg T715 .22. The first brush got stuck!!! I had a heck of a time pulling it back out! I couldn't pull it through the correct way either as it was stuck so bad.I called the company as I know I can't return this due to the 'hazardous materials'. She didn't think anything was amiss. So that was a wasted call. But will this loosen up? This rifle is new, it really doesn't need a cleaning right now, but I was just 'testing' out this snake. When it got truly stuck I panicked a little. I didn't put any oil on it as like I said, this was a test run on the snake. If oil is added does it soften the brushes a bit?thanks so much in advance for any tips. I just needed a SOFT rifle bore!!!I was a skeptic but this is a good tool to clean out a barrel in the fieldThis kit is perfect for a quick field/range cleaning. It is nice and packable, and does a good job at getting a lot of the grime out of the barrel without having to break down the gun.I have used this several times on my RRA LAR15 with great results each time. I have even started incorporating it into the cleaning when the firearm is dismantled. I will run this snake through with solvent before running a brush through, as I find it does a better job (and is easier) than running a patch through with solvent. All in all, for the price this is a great purchase and works well with a .223.5 stars.
